At 10pm we received a message from Nick in Victoria Street, Westminster: his iPhone 13 Pro had slipped during a shower, hit the floor, cracked, and fell into water. We powered the device down, opened it carefully, and isolated the battery to stop any shorts. The logic-board, Taptic Engine area and connectors were inspected under magnification. The first photo below shows the tell-tale green flicker from the damaged OLED panel before we touched the device.
We then disassembled the phone fully to access the A15 logic board. Moisture had tracked in via the shattered rear corner. The board, connectors and cameras were prepared for ultrasonic cleaning and targeted chemical treatment to arrest corrosion. You can see the open device with the A15 area exposed below.
The cracked back glass that let the water in is shown in the next image. That edge damage was the primary ingress point leading to display failure and sensor issues.
After deep cleaning and drying, we replaced the failed OLED display, battery and front sensor flex, reseated the cameras and re-sealed the frame. Final diagnostics passed: touch, audio, signal and Face ID. Within 90 minutes of arrival the phone booted normally โ passcode screen, data intact, everything working. Nick could breathe again.
